Answers to some common questions about Reiki treatments...
Why do people come for Reiki Treatments?
People come for Reiki for a variety of reasons and conditions often as a complement or alternative to traditional medicine and therapies. Clinically Reiki is used in hospitals to assist in accelerating the healing process (including post-surgery), and to manage symptoms of pain and anxiety often associated with illnesses that require hospitalization. Outside of the clinical experience though Reiki is used for so much more! Clients come for Reiki treatments to restore “balance” to their lives, to manage stress, depression, anxiety; to strengthen their immune system, to assist them through a difficult life challenge such as divorce, loss of a loved one, unexplained physical symptoms, a cancer diagnosis and so on. Essentially, since Reiki is “life-force” energy, there are no boundaries to its healing capabilities.
How much time should I schedule for my appointment?
This is a personal preference and the most popular session length is 60 minutes. I find this to be more effective than the shorter sessions as this time-frame allows us time to check in, experience the Reiki and then talk about any insights received during the session and/or next steps for you to take at home to support your healing process.
Sessions are available in 30, 45, 60, and 90 minute increments in a variety of combinations including spiritual guidance and coaching as add-ons to your treatment. Details are available under the Services section on the website.
What should I expect to experience during a Reiki treatment?
Receiving Reiki is definitely an experience that will be unique to you and will most likely be different each time you receive a treatment. That being said, clients have reported feeling heat or warmth, feelings of floating or being in a dream state, extreme peace and relaxation. People often see vibrant colors which hover over their body or move within the body. Folks also describe feeling the energy remove “blocks” or pleasantly moving through the body and healing. Many have described feeling a direct connection and presence to God (or their higher power) which created an experience of love and acceptance deeper than they have experienced in the past.
How often should I come for Reiki?
There is no right or wrong answer to this question but if all is well and there is no significant illness or stressor in your life, protocol typically calls for a monthly visit. Most clients schedule every 4 weeks or so as preventative maintenance. I like to think of it as pressing the reset button physically, emotionally and spiritually …
If you are dealing with a chronic illness or disease, or major life event stressor, then once a week is standard protocol though I have folks who come twice a week and folks who come every other week. We’ll work together to decide what will be best for your situation and healing path.
What should I wear?
You should wear loose comfortable clothing for your Reiki session. Please remove any electronic or battery operated devices from your person including fit-bits, cell phones, watches, etc.
Wearing personal jewelry including crystals is perfectly fine.
Do you recommend self-care after my Reiki session?
Yes. Be sure to drink lots of water and allow yourself time to let the healing unfold. In other words, don’t invest your time and money into a Reiki treatment and then throw yourself into a stressful or toxic situation immediately afterwards.
Can anything bad happen from a Reiki treatment?
No it can’t which is why Reiki is used in almost every hospital here in Boston and is gaining use throughout the country and the world. Reiki is a healing touch non-invasive treatment. It is frequently used in hospitals to reduce pain and anxiety and to assist the recovery process of patients under care. I personally have administered Reiki in hospitals to patients in the oncology units, trauma and burn care, ICU, and Pre and Post surgery.
