There’s something special about this week of the year, especially here in New England ❄️. The days are short, and the air feels heavier. The calendar is loud, yet our bodies are tired. Outside, everything is quiet and bare. Inside, we’re expected to be festive, grateful, productive, joyful, reflective, generous, and somehow rested all at once.
This week marks the last days of Hanukkah and the beginning of Christmas celebrations. These two holidays center around light, warmth, and hope 🕯️✨. Candles, twinkle lights, and glowing windows fill our homes. Yet, it is also the darkest stretch of the year. Long nights, early sunsets, and a cold that settles into your bones ❄️.
The Wisdom in Contrast: Embracing the Season's Duality
There is wisdom in that contrast. Many of us feel pressure to push through this time of year. We strive to finish strong, keep up, and show up smiling, even when we’re depleted. But winter, especially here in Boston, is not a season for pushing. It’s a season for conserving.
In nature, nothing is blooming right now. Nothing is forcing growth. And yet, life is still happening. This is what these holidays quietly remind us:
Light doesn’t have to be loud 🕯️
Rest doesn’t mean failure ❄️
Stillness isn’t being stuck 🌙
Finding Comfort in Stillness: Listening to Your Inner Voice
Sometimes holding the light looks like:
Letting yourself feel both grateful and exhausted
Saying no without over-explaining
Allowing your body to soften rather than bracing through the day
Reaching for comfort and simplicity instead of pushing through overwhelm
If this season feels overwhelming, remember: you’re not behind. If it feels heavy, you’re not doing it wrong. If you’re craving quiet more than celebration, you’re listening to something wise inside you.
Embracing Rest and Reflection: Nurturing Your Spirit
As we move toward the holidays and the turning of the year, my hope for you is simple:
Allow yourself moments of real rest.
Honor what this season asks of you.
Remember that light shows up, even on the darkest of days 🕯️.
The Importance of Self-Care: Prioritizing Your Well-Being
Self-care is essential during this time. It’s easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle. Yet, taking a step back can be incredibly rejuvenating. Consider setting aside time for yourself. Whether it’s a quiet cup of tea, a walk in nature, or simply sitting in silence, these moments can recharge your spirit.
Creating a Self-Care Routine
Creating a self-care routine can help you stay grounded. Here are some ideas to get you started:
Morning Mindfulness: Begin your day with a few minutes of meditation or deep breathing. This sets a positive tone for the day ahead.
Nature Breaks: Step outside, even if it’s just for a few minutes. Fresh air can do wonders for your mood.
Digital Detox: Take breaks from screens. Disconnecting can help you reconnect with yourself.
Gratitude Journaling: Write down a few things you’re grateful for each day. This practice can shift your focus to the positive.
Seeking Support: You're Not Alone
I’m here whenever you need a little extra support, whether for yourself or as a gift to someone you love.✨. Remember, it’s okay to reach out. Sharing your feelings can lighten your load.
Finding Community
Consider joining a community group or class that resonates with you. Connecting with others can provide comfort and understanding. You might find that sharing your experiences brings relief and connection.
Wishing You Love and Light
Wishing you all the love and light this season brings. Remember, it’s okay to take a step back and breathe. You are not alone in this journey. Together, we can navigate these darker days and find the light within.
